Safety notice

A train horn is a loud, air powered device. Please read all of this before you connect one.

Hearing

  • Air horns are extremely loud and can damage hearing in a fraction of a second at close range.
  • Wear hearing protection when you test it, and keep other people and animals well away.

Compressed air

  • Use a pressure switch and a tank with a working relief valve. Never run the horn from a source that can exceed the pressure your parts are made for.
  • No pressure rating has been established for these horns. Start well below the pressure you intend to use, increase slowly, and keep your face and body clear of the horn and the fittings the first time you test it.
  • Use air only. Never use gases, fuels or liquids.
  • Check every fitting, bolt and joint before each use. Stop and fix any leak, crack or loose part.

Heat and materials

  • The horn is printed in plastic that softens when it gets hot. Do not mount it near an engine, exhaust, brakes or in a closed vehicle in the sun.
  • If a part is cracked, warped or damaged, replace it before using the horn again.

The law

  • Many places restrict train style horns on public roads and limit noise. You are responsible for knowing and following the rules where you use it.
  • For example, in Florida no horn on a vehicle may make an unreasonably loud or harsh sound (section 316.271 of the Florida Statutes).
  • It is not an emergency or life safety signal device.

Not a toy

Keep it away from children. It contains small parts and is powered by compressed air.
